Bryan Brothers Number One Again

For the fifth time in seven years, Bob and Mike Bryan aka the Bryan Brothers end the year as the Number One ranked doubles team. The Bryan Brothers are now tied with the legendary Australian doubles tandem, Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde aka “The Woodies,” with five year-end Number One finishes. It came down to the final tennis
tournament of the year at the 2009 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London, but by capturing their seventh title of the year the Bryan Brothers claimed the top ranking for 2009. In the past eight seasons, the Bryan Brothers have won at least five titles each year. Overall, Bob and Nike have collected 56 titles so far in their illustrious career together and need five more to tie the Woodies. In terms of finals, the Bryans were 7-5 in finals in 2009 bringing their career tally to 56-38. The Brothers match record in 2009 was 68-18 raising their career tally to 590-208.
At the beginning of 2009, the Bryans collected their seventh Grand Slam doubles title at the Australian Open. Bob and Mike also collected $872,000 each for all of their victories during the year. Continuing their staunch commitment to the United States Davis Cup team, the Bryans won doubles matches in the two rounds the United States team played in 2009. Overall, the Bryan Brothers are 16-2 in Davis Cup doubles matches which makes them the most successful doubles team in United States Davis Cup history. Equally important to the Bryan Brothers success on the court is the sheer joy and positive spirit with which they play every match and charity tennis exhibition. It’s refreshing and Bob and Mike are tremendous ambassadors for the sport of tennis worldwide.
