Tennis Country 2009 Year-End Number One Player: Men - Roger Federer

Grand Slam Titles: Two – French Open and Wimbledon
Tournament Titles: 4
Match wins: 61
Intangible: By the end of the year’s first Grand Slam in Australia with Roger Federer in tears on the podium after losing to Rafael Nadal in the final, practically no one would have predicted that this might become Federer’s most significant career year. In the month between early June and early July, Federer won his first French Open tying Pete Sampras Grand Slam record in the process, achieved a career Grand Slam (one of only six men to hold that honor) and then capped off the month-long campaign by winning a record fifteenth Grand Slam title and sixth Wimbledon title. By the end of the year, Federer had reached the final of all four Grand Slams.
