Roger Federer Visits Ethiopia
Tanzania, Mali, Malawi and Zimbabwe, spends $1 million a year on its mission.
After winning his sixteenth Grand Slam singles title at the 2010 Australian Open, Federer flew to Ethiopia to visit schools which are supported by his Foundation. As he arrived, the children were singing a song to him, "Roger, Our Father." Federer had lunch at a school and also played table tennis with some kids and ran in a race against other children while also distributing equipment and seeing the facilities. The trip was an emotional visit for Federer and worlds away from the experience of swatting a fuzzy yellow tennis ball across a blue court in the bright sunshine inside Rod Laver Arena. As the Number One ranked player and a global celebrity, it's inspiring to witness Federer starting to take on more of a leadership role off the court in terms of his philanthropic work as evidenced by his efforts to pull off the "Hit for Haiti," as well as this visit in support of his Foundation's programs in Africa.
