2010 BNP Paribas Open Wildcards

With new owner, Larry Ellison, the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells seems to be raising its profile a bit, e.g. the “Hit for Haiti” exhibition featuring a bevy of tennis legends. The tournament which competes with the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Florida for the
unofficial label as the “fifth Grand Slam” continues to enhance its “product offering.” The wildcards selected for the main draw are a mix of veterans on the comeback trail, as well as promising younger players. The list of wildcards selected for the 2010 event also includes some former Grand Slam champions. As with wildcards at the Grand Slams, these are coveted spots in the draw because a player can earn significant ranking points with a couple match wins which raise his/her ranking for an entire year (until the points fall off) and provide entry into future top tier events.
