MIA in Miami - Tennis Stars Injured

The list of big-name players missing from the main draws at the 2010 Sony Ericsson Open is striking and “long.” Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Juan Martin del Potro,
Dinara Safina, Nikolay Davydenko, etc. All of these players and others have withdrawn with injuries including a couple players who had to return their wildcards because of injuries, e.g. Kei Nishikori, Carlos Moya.
Nonetheless, the Sony Ericsson Open, one of the “Baby Slams,” has reached a stature where the tournament is bigger than its players. That’s not to say that the missing star power won’t affect attendance, TV ratings, etc. However, the Sony Ericsson Open has become “an event” on the Miami social calendar, as well as a tournament not to be missed by all able-bodied players. The play has begun and all tennis eyes will be focused on key Biscayne for the next ten days!
