Novak Djokovic's Emotions

Serbian tennis star, Novak Djokovic, was upset in three sets by Olivier Rochus in the second round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Florida. Djokovic was also upset at the BNP Paribas Open by eventual champion, Ivan Ljubicic. Not a stellar run of form for the
Djokovic, who is currently ranked second in the world, had a 15-3 win/loss record entering this tournament including two critical wins on clay a few weeks ago during Serbia’s Davis Cup victory over the United States. During that Tie, Djokovic clearly felt the pressure of leading the Serbian team. Even when he was leading in matches, Djokovic became visibly upset at times, which seemed surprising since he was “ahead.” Many players ride their emotions to victory, but it sometimes appears that Djokovic’s emotional outbursts drain him rather than lift him up. Novak has played and won a lot of matches early in the season, but he will need to recharge his batteries quickly to head into the spring clay court season with the emotional stamina and attitude required to be successful on clay.
