New Stadium for Italian Open - More Mega Tennis Events in the Future?

Following in the footsteps of the original combined men’s and women’s events in Indian Wells, California and Key Biscayne, Florida, aka the “Baby Slams” there are more and more combined events. There is the tournament held at the Caja Magica in Madrid, which was
the stadium that helped to launch the combined men’s and women’s tournament in Madrid. A month before the start of the Italian Open, a new stadium has opened in Rome.
The new 10,500-seat tennis stadium, which was built and will be operated by the Italian Olympic Committee, cost $38.4 million. The stadium will be officially inaugurated on April 27th, but the matches will commence with the start of the ATP World Tour Masters in Rome beginning April 25th. In the increasingly competitive world of professional tournament tennis, there is pressure on tournaments to upgrade their facilities. At the same time, it’s nice that not all new stadiums are “bigger” in the hopes of being “better.” The new stadium has matching facades all the way round which are notable for the whiteness of the steel, the punched surfaces of the metallic chaining and the grooved pillars. The new stadium, which was constructed on the same site as the former stadium at the Foro Italico, offers tennis fans an intimate experience and excellent site lines to catch all the action.
