2010 French Open Fashion Review

Given that the French Open takes place in Paris, fashion is definitely on center stage, as well as the tennis being played. Lacoste returns as a tournament sponsor outfitting the linespeople and umpires in khaki pants and different colored polo shirts during the
tournament. For most of the top players, there are new outfits to be worn and reviewed!
On the women’s side, there are many dresses being worn which is a trend that began several years ago. Venus Williams has attracted the most attention for her own VenusEleven design which features “see-through” black lace similar to a corset style dress. Meanwhile, Jelena Jankovic is decked out in a bright yellow Anta design. Nike has designed an attractive aquamarine blue dress with lime green accents for Serena Williams and a flattering, albeit much more subdued flowing gray/silver and dark maroon style for Maria Sharapova. adidas endorsee, Ana Ivanovic, is continuing a look she’s worn this year, but in a bright orange coloring with red accents. Justine Henin and other adidas players are playing “pretty in pink” with the traditional adidas stripes. Defending champion and Fila player, Svetlana Kuznetsova, is also wearing a pink with black shorts. Lacoste player, Samantha Stosur is sporting a basic black tank top with subtle blue and pink accents.
On the men’s side, blue seems to be the dominant color albeit in varied shades. The most eye-catching designs are Rafael Nadal’s blue-green Nike shirt and Novak Djokovic’s stylish white and navy-blue accented Sergio Tacchini top. Fast-rising and super tall Croat, Marin Cilic, is wearing a bright royal Fila blue shirt, while defending champion, Roger Federer, has returned to a collared shirt, after a few tournaments without a collar, in a less memorable pale aquamarine blue Nike top over white shorts.
All in all, a slightly disappointing French fashion show this year although Venus Williams’ dress and Rafael Nadal’s shirt did make rather strong impressions…
