Mutua Madrilena Tennis Tournament in 3D

A year ago, Ion Tiriac’s new combined men’s and women’s tournament in Madrid opened with a PR splash at the opening of La Caja Magica tennis stadium. Now in year two, the tournament has unveiled plans to be the first tennis tournament to broadcast in 3D. The
men’s and women’s finals will be shown live in three movie theaters in Madrid, Barcelona and Malaga.
Tennis had traditionally been slow to adopt new cutting-edge technology, but Ion Tiriac, one of the most, if not the most, successful businessmen in professional tennis, has proved to be very shrewd in marketing his tennis events. He hired professional models as ballpeople, which was both controversial, as well as a magnet for lots of press attention. In addition to the 3D broadcasts, the Mutua Madrilena Open has also created a "Fan Zone" for this year's tournament. The Fan Zone allows tennis fans to interact with each other and also send video messages to their favorite players which will be shown on center court. It’s all happening in Madrid this week!
