What's New at Roland Garros in 2010

Roland Garros in the City Adds Beach Tennis
The Grand Slams have expanded their marketing efforts and promotions beyond the grounds of the main tournament venue. This year the French Open has enhanced its “Roland Garros in the City” activities at the City Hall in Paris to include beach tennis, a sport seemingly growing in popularity around the world. On Saturday, May 29th and Sunday, May 30th,
tennis fans will be able to watch the semifinals and finals of the Ile-de-France Beach Tennis Championships, which serve as the qualifying rounds for the French Championships (the final will be held next September in Calvi, Corsica). Tennis fans will then be able to play themselves through June 6th! At the “Hotel de Ville”, matches from Roland Garros will be broadcast live in giant TV screens, there will be exhibition matches, as well as mini-tennis for the kids.
French Food Fare…
In keeping with the French flair at Roland Garros, there is special attention paid to the food offerings around the grounds even more so than at the other Grand Slams. For the first time in 2010, the restaurant “Les Jardins de Roland-Garros”, which is located on the esplanade of the CNE, will stay open in the evening, until one hour after the end of the last match. The menus by Bruno Caironi, a chef trained by Alain Ducasse, change depending on the time of day. Another innovation for 2010 for a quick meal on the go, will allow tennis fans in a hurry to place a sandwich order in advance at a special stand in the Place Des Mousqetaires and then pick up their food at a specified time later in the day at a specific location for these orders.
On-site Entertainment Area
In 1999, Roland Garros created an indoor entertainment space with all sorts of interactive games and activities for tennis fans and especially kids in keeping with the trend of tennis tournaments creating “a total entertainment” experience for visitors. Tournament partners (sponsors) BNP, adidas and Technifibre will have activities in the 1500 meter space modern space.
Art Exhibition
One of the unique aspects of Roland Garros has always been the artistic design of the official tournament poster and t-shirt, which is created by an artist each year. In 2010, Nalini Malani created the design. The French Tennis Federation has a new exhibition “30 years, Galerie Lelong - Roland-Garros” celebrating the FFT’s collaboration with the prestigious Galerie Leong and featuring some of the most beautiful work of the great artists who have participated in this collaboration with a special focus on Nalini who designed the 2010 poster.
High-Tech at Roland Garros
In 2010, there are several technological innovations to enhance the experience of tennis fans around France and all over the world as they follow all the action from Roland Garros via TV or the Internet, e.g. 3D.
