2010 U.S. Open Tennis: What's At Stake for the Top 8 Women's Seeds?

The results of the fourth Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year at the 2010 U.S. Open matter in different ways for each of the top eight women. So what’s at stake for each of the players?
Caroline Wozniacki – She comes in with a fair amount of pressure as the Number One seed, as well as final round points to defend from 2009. There’s also the $1 million bonus out there as the U.S. Open Series winner if she can also win the U.S. Open title…
Kim Clijsters – Unlike 2009, all eyes will be on her this year and she knows she can win, but the question will be how the hip feels and how she reacts to the pressure and extra attention.
Venus Williams – At the age of 30 and with a gimpy knee, she may not have that many more years to win the U.S. Open. With Serena sidelined by a foot injury, she has to like her chances, but that all adds a bit more pressure as well.
Jelena Jankovic – Coming off an ankle injury and “so so” results this year, not many expect her to do well. Perhaps with the wide open draw, she realizes she has a real chance to finally win a Slam.
Samantha Stosur – She’s had a career year reaching the French Open final, but she’s also had an arm/shoulder injury and poor results since then. Can she continue her rise at a Slam where she has never played well in the past?
Francesca Schiavone – She made her career by claiming the 2010 French Open title, but at the age of 30 is that “it” for her or can she turn around her lackluster summer and find her inspired form again on the hard courts at Flushing Meadows?
Vera Zvonareva – She worked her way back from injuries to reach the Wimbledon final, but at the mid point of her career can she take it a step further and claim a Slam title?
Li Na – She has reached Grand Slam quarterfinals, but she has yet to beat the best players on the biggest stages when it really matters. She has the game, but does she have the courage and belief to seize the trophy?
