3D Broadcasts of the 2010 U.S. Open Tennis Tournament

Following a technology trend towards 3D in television and movies, the 2010 U.S. Open will be broadcasting in 3D for the first time as did the 2010 French Open. CBS, together with U.S. Open sponsor, Panasonic, will produce 3D versions of Arthur Ashe Stadium matches
that it broadcasts on Labor Day Weekend, as well as on Finals Weekend. Subscribers to DirectTV will be able to view the matches on the dedicated 3D entertainment channel, "n|3D Powered by Panasonic" (DirecTV channel 103). However, tennis fans must have 3D TVs and glasses in order to watch the 3D broadcasts.
In order to produce the 3D broadcasts, CBS will have a separate production team, broadcast teams, trucks and equipment, e.g. the Panasonic professional 3D camcorder will be used to shoot interviews and other footage. The 3D cameras will be placed even closer to the courts in order to capture and present a powerful 3D experience. There is no question that newer, better technology can enhance the fan experience on-site, on-line and through 3D broadcast TV!
