2010 WTA Player Awards

The WTA recently announced its awards for the 2010 season and the recipients are…
Player of the Year
Kim Clijsters – she collected five titles including her second consecutive U.S. Open title and also won the season-ending WTA Championships. It was her second “Player of the Year” award (she won in 2005).
Player Service Award
Kim Clijsters – the award honors the woman who has done the most to support her fellow players through the WTA players’ council or other initiatives.
Justine Henin – she returned to the Tour in Australia at the beginning of the year reaching the final of the 2010 Australian Open losing to Serena Williams.
Humanitarian of the Year
Maria Sharapova – her foundation donated money in her native Russia to support victims impacted by Chernobyl years ago.
Doubles Team of the Year
Flavia Pennetta and Gisela Dulko – two successful singles players and close friends combined to achieve success as a doubles team in 2010.
Newcomer of the Year
Petra Kvitova – the twenty year old “burst on the scene” when she reached the Wimbledon semis losing to Serena Williams.
