Serbian 2010 Davis Cup Champions Honored with Postage Stamp

Tennis players such as Arthur Ashe, Roger Federer and Ana Ivanovic have been honored with postage stamps in their respective countries. However, the Serbian Davis Cup team, newly-crowned 2010 Davis Cup Champions, was honored within a day of its victory!
Clearly, the Serbian postal authority was “clairvoyant” or an least optimistic risk-taker by designing the stamp prior to the Serbian Davis Cup team’s actual victory!
Regardless, the commemorative postage stamp, which features all the players on the winning team, i.e. Novak Djokovic, Janko Tipsarevic, Viktor Troicki, and Nenad Zimonjic, is an indication of the impact of their victory on the country of Serbia. It’s a really big deal! In fact, the fifth live “rubber” which decided the Tie, between Viktor Troicki and Michael Llodra, was the most-watched sporting event in history in Serbia. Clearly, there will be more tennis stars in Serbia’s future following in the footsteps of not only Novak Djokovic and his Davis Cup teammates, but also Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic.
