Chris Evert Plays Mixed Doubles in 2011 U.S. Open National Playoffs
sense since so many amateur tennis players compete in mixed doubles at the club level. Chris Evert was awarded a wildcard to compete with ESPN Radio personality, Mike Greenberg, of "Mike and Mike in the Morning" at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Evert and "Greeny" had a very tough draw and faced Bea Bielik, 2002 NCAA Singles Champion, and Darrin Cohen, a former tennis player at the University of Virginia in their first match. Despite having an eighteen-time Grand Slam and six-time U.S. Open champion by his side, the forty-three year-old Greeny struggled and he and the fifty-six year old, Chris Evert, lost 6-1, 6-4 to the twenty-something Bielik and Cohen. Nonetheless, given the amount of discussion that took place about the mixed doubles match on "Mike and Mike in the Morning", this is all terrific PR for tennis and the 2011 U.S. Open.
