Kim Clijsters One of the the 2011 TIME 100 Most Influential People

In the past, Roger Federer and Serena Williams have both been on the TIME magazine list of the 100 Most Influential People. This year, Kim Clijsters joins that elite company. Tennis legend, Martina Navratilova, wrote the piece about why Clijsters should be
included in this list. Other members this year include actors, singers, celebrities, politicians, activists, etc.

Tennis players frequently are included on the various “top money-earner” lists, e.g. Maria Sharapova. However, having Clijsters included on the TIME list is a way to broaden the appeal of tennis beyond traditional tennis fans. Clijsters’ “working mom” storyline, coupled with her successful comeback over the past couple years, which has included two U.S. Open titles, one Australian Open title and the Number One ranking, albeit briefly, is incredible copy. Have a read how Martina Navratilova assesses Clijsters’ journey so far
