Tennis Country's 2011 First Quarter Highlights - Women

Fireworks

Tennis Country’s snapshot of the memorable moments on the women’s pro tennis tour during the First Quarter…

•    Greatest Accomplishment:

o    Kim Clijsters winning her first Australian Open title and second consecutive Grand Slam title (she also won the 2010 U.S. Open) and subsequent return to the Number One ranking, albeit briefly.

•    Biggest Disappointment:
o    Justine Henin announcing that she had retired for the last time because of an elbow injury, having never really been able to fulfill the promise of her comeback when she reached the final of the 2010 Australian Open in her second tournament back on Tour.

•    Major Surprise:
o    The scary news that Serena Williams had a pulmonary embolism.

•    Fresh New Face:
o    Chinese tennis star, Na Li’s stellar tennis to reach the final of the 2011 Australian Open was complemented by incredibly humorous and entertaining post-match interviews, which further enhanced her standing with tennis fans, the media, sponsors, etc.
