Tennis Prep For Royal Wedding

Chnaging of the guard

The big news on Friday in London and across the world, at least in some circles, will be the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.  The fairy tale Royal Wedding has been the buzz in London for days, if not weeks.  It was good news for tennis and

hopefully Wimbledon that apparently Prince William and Kate Middleton played tennis a couple days ago at Queens Club as part of their weeklong “marriage prep.”  It may have only been a casual game of doubles with Kate’s sister and a friend.  Nonetheless, it raises hopes that there might be more of a royal presence at Wimbledon in the future.  Wimbledon doesn't need the attention, but the sport of tennis could always use more "popular" press coverage!

Last year, Queen Elizabeth made a rare appearance at Wimbledon.  However, Prince William’s mother, Princess Diana, had been an avid tennis player and frequent attendee at Wimbledon.  As the 2011 Championships approach, all (tennis) eyes will be on Prince William and his new bride, Kate, to see if they make an appearance at the All England Club this year.  Perhaps the flood of new responsibilities, etc. will prevent them from attending Wimbledon this year, but it would be awfully nice if they could squeeze in a brief appearance on Centre Court thereby setting the precedent for the future!
