Gasquet Beats Federer... Finally French Fulfill Potential?

Super-talented, Frenchman, Richard Gasquet, defeated Roger Federer for the second time in his career 4-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) at the Italian Open today. Gasquet first beat Federer the first time they ever played in 2005 on the red clay courts at the Monte Carlo
Country Club. After that victory, much was expected of Gasquet and his beautiful flowing one-handed backhand. However, six years and one (overturned) doping suspension later, Gasquet has yet to fulfill his potential. Gasquet has been ranked in the top ten, beaten marquee players, but he has only reached the semis of a Grand Slam once at Wimbledon.
The French men have dominated the top 100 along with the Spanish men for many years. A couple other incredibly talented Frenchman, i.e. Gael Monfils and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, have reached the semis and even a final at a Grand Slam, but they also have yet to truly fulfill their potential because of injuries among other explanations. Gasquet pulled off a big win today in a major French Open tune-up tournament. With the victory, all eyes will again focus on Gasquet and his tremendous talent. Can he continue his fine form at the Italian Open and more importantly can he shine at Roland Garros and Wimbledon where it really matters? At the age of 24 (almost 25), Gasquet has already been “around the block” a couple times and this time he needs to make the most of his opportunity and talent. The key to Richard’s success is all between the ears and inside his heart. Gasquet plays the kind of exciting and inspiring tennis which will thrill tennis fans and so let’s hope he finally does fulfill his potential and dreams…
