James Blake on the Comeback AGAIN!

James Blake is probably on at least the third of his tennis “lives” and with his victory yesterday to win the $75,000 Sarasota Challenger tournament, Blake collected $10,800 and 90 valuable ranking points. After the victory, Blake moved up forty places and is
now ranked 109th. Blake’s current ranking is a far cry from his career best of 4th in 2006, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction and puts him very close to direct entry into Wimbledon and the U.S. Open if he can stay there and/or move higher.
At the age of 31, Blake is on the comeback from knee and shoulder injuries, but clearly believes that he can still move back “into the mix”. It’s admirable that given his age and past success, i.e. ten Tour titles and more than $7 million in career earnings, Blake is still willing to toil at the Challenger level because it’s not glamorous or easy to win those events. Blake has travelled this comeback trail before after he broke his neck and developed Zoster. Blake achieved his greatest success after his first comeback and although he may not reach the same heights this time around, his flashy, powerful game could still enable him to have some big wins and some surprisingly positive results. All Blake needs is a few more wins, as well as to stay healthy because the power-hitting Blake is definitely a “confidence” player with not much of a “B” game beyond his flashy forehand, blazing speed and strong first serve.
