New No. 3 Court at Wimbledon

Despite its reputation for tradition, Wimbledon continues to progress and innovate as evidenced by the launch of the roof over Centre Court a couple years ago... of course, followed by weeks of sun! As part its continued upgrading of the tournament/club
facilities, Wimbledon opened a new modern No. 3 Court in time for the 2011 Championships. The new No. 3 Court, which has Hawk-Eye electronic line-calling capabilities is the fourth show court on the grounds of The All England Club along with Centre Court, No. 1 Court and No. 2 Court.
The new No. 3 Court seats 2000 tennis fans in cushioned green seats and complements the nearby No. 2 Court, which holds 4000 tennis fans. The No. 3 Court design also matches the style of the new No. 2 Court. Ironically, the new No. 3 Court is actually on the spot where the old No. 2 Court, known as “The Graveyard”, because of the many upsets that took place there, used to exist! The Duke of Kent officially opened the No. 3 Court before the first scheduled match on Monday, June 20th, and performed the coin toss and unveiled a commemorative plaque.
