Novak Djokovic's "New Number One" Off-Court Commitments

As Novak Djokovic's "summer vacation" comes to an end and he prepares to hit the hot and humid North American summer US Open Series, he spent some time in Los Angeles this week appearing on late-night TV. On Tuesday night, Novak stopped by to chat and dance on
the Jay Leno Show. On Wednesday night, Djokovic made an appearance on the Conan O'Brien Show. All tennis fans know that Djokovic is one of the more "entertaining" and humorous of the top tennis players and that helped him during his late-night TV appearances.

The challenge for Djokovic going forward will be to balance all of the additional media, sponsor and other PR requests that come his way by virtue of now being ranked Number One. It's a tricky balance to find because Novak will want to "capitalize" on his new fame, but also not skip all the hard practices and training necessary to continue his success. There are many players in the past, who have reached the top echelons in professional tennis, but not been able to maintain their tennis success. When Djokovic reaches New York City for the 2011 U.S. Open, which he has never won, all eyes and spotlights will be directed at him. One senses that since Djokovic has been near the top for several years and seems to enjoy the limelight that he has a chance to fare better than most, but time will tell...
