2011 U.S. Open Tennis Fashion Revue

US Open tennis fashion review

Bright colors!  There are plenty of colorful tennis outfits on display at the 2011 U.S. Open tennis tournament.  It may be the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, but the major tennis clothing brands, i.e. Nike, adidas, Fila, Lacoste and K-Swiss are going out with a

colorful bang!  Serena Williams, back at the U.S. Open after missing the tournament last year has been wearing an attractive bright turquoise dress with black accents alternating with the same dress in bright red.  Maria Sharapova, who lost early was wearing a gray dress accented in fluorescent lavender.  Adidas has truly brought out the color bling with fluorescent red/dark orange outfits on many female players, as well as on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.  Fila had former U.S. Open and French Open champion, Svetlana Kuznetsova, decked out in a smart shirt and skirt outfit in navy and white with bright purple and turquoise stripes.  Samantha Stosur’s Lacoste dresses and skirt and shirt ensembles feature purple and black.  The one exception to the “bright color” trend at the 2011 U.S. Open is that current World Number One, Caroline Wozniacki, is wearing a simple and stylish white Stella McCartney for adidas dress.  Venus Williams, who has made many of the most memorable fashion statements the past couple years, unfortunately only played one match at night in a little black dress with a white lace back.

On the men’s side, new World Number One, Novak Djokovic, is wearing classically simple Sergio Tacchini designs in all white with blue pencil-thin piping during the day and black with red piping at night.  Rafael Nadal has alternated with a bright yellow and white Nike short and black shorts, as well as a bright royal blue top and white shorts.  Roger Federer’s Nike ensemble features dark gray shorts with a bright red shirt for day and matching gray shirt with red trim for night.  Juan Martin del Potro, who lost early, was also wearing a bright yellow shirt with black shorts.  Andy Murray is wearing a bright red adidas shirt for day matches with black shorts and all black for nighttime.  Andy Roddick’s Lacoste outfits are black with white and green striping for night and all white with black stripes for daytime.  K-Swiss endorsee, Gael Monfils, who is always colorful on court had a top featuring various shades of green to match his snazzy tennis.  All in all, a number of attractive and colorful designs from all the tennis brands – well done!
