Next Wave of American Men's Tennis

Andy Roddick may have defeated eighteen year old Jack Sock last night at the U.S. Open, but there are (finally) some promising prospects in American men’s tennis. Sock won back-to-back USTA Boys’ 18s titles to earn his wildcard into the U.S. Open and also won the
2010 U.S. Open Junior Boys’ title. Sock may have lost last night, but he showed a lot of weapons and poise under the lights inside Arthur Ashe Stadium during a night match.
Another young American man with a lot of “upside”, nineteen year old, Ryan Harrison, may have lost in the first round to Marin Cilic, but he has played well on big stages in the past year. The oldest American man of the “next wave” is twenty-two year old, Donald Young, who had a major win over Stan Wawrinka and is still in the tournament and plays on Sunday. It’s a long road between potential and achieving significant success so only time will tell. However, Jack Sock, Ryan Harrison and Donald Young have given American tennis fans some players to cheer for in the coming months and years.
