Petra Kvitova's Career(changing) Year

Petra Kvitova may have burst into the spotlight with her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon earlier this year, but she showed signs of greatness before that magical moment. In 2008, Kvitova, ranked 143 at the time, upset Venus Williams at a tournament in Memphis. In 2009,
Kvitova reached the fourth round at the U.S. Open and in 2010, she reached the Wimbledon semis losing to Serena Williams. Ranked 34th at the beginning of this year, Petra started off 2011 by winning the title in Brisbane and then reaching the quarters of the Australian Open.
Overall, Petra won six titles in 2011, the same as Number One, Caroline Wozniacki. Kvitova, ranked second heading into 2012, ended the year by winning the year-end championships. Kvitova also collected $5.1 million prize money in 2011 and was named WTA Player of the Year. Given her results, powerful game and left-handed serve, Petra should challenge for the top ranking in 2012.
