Tennis Country 2011 Year-End Number One Player: Men - Novak Djokovic

Grand Slam Titles: 3 – Australian Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open
Tournament Titles: 10
Match wins: 70
Intangible: Novak Djokovic arrived “down under” for the 2011 Australian Open feeling quite high after leading the Serbian Davis Cup team to a historic win at home in Belgrade in December, 2010. With practically no time for vacation, let alone pre-season training, Djokovic’s 2011 success was fueled by the confidence and energy he gained with the Davis Cup success. Djokovic had a win streak of 43 straight match wins dating back to late 2010 before Roger Federer upset him in the French Open semis. Djokovic recovered the following month to capture Wimbledon and later in the summer, the U.S. Open. In 2011, Djokovic was 6-0 versus Nadal (all in finals and on hard, clay and grass), 4-1 versus Federer and 2-1 versus Murray (Djokovic retired with a shoulder injury). Fatigue and injury affected Novak’s post-U.S. Open form and results, but there was no question that this was a career year for Djokovic, who now has four Grand Slam titles and is poised to collect more in 2012 and beyond if he can stay motivated and healthy.
