Tennis Country's 2011 Fourth Quarter Highlights - Women

Tennis Country’s snapshot of the memorable moments on the women’s pro tennis tour during the Fourth Quarter…
• Greatest Accomplishment:
o Petra Kvitova winning the year-end championships and then leading the Czech Republic to the Federation Cup title over Russia in Moscow
• Biggest Disappointment:
o Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova did not compete in the fourth quarter because of injuries
• Major Surprise:
o Caroline Wozniacki ended the year as the Number One ranked player… AGAIN… and without a Grand Slam title or year-end championship on her resume…
• Fresh New Face:
o German, Andrea Petkovic, ending the year ranked tenth after ending 2010 ranked 32nd. Petkovic, who reached the quarters at the Australian Open, French Open and U.S. Open and third round at Wimbledon, won 54 singles matches and one title. One hopes some knee issues that surfaced in the latter part of the year don’t hamper her performance in 2012
