2012 Wimbledon Championships - Qualies Review

The three rounds of the 2012 Wimbledon Championships qualifying finished a few days before the tournament started. On the men’s side, there were a total of 16 qualifiers from the 128 player draw. On the women’s side, there were 12 women to advance to the main
draw from the 96 player qualifying draw. As always, the qualies included some seasoned veterans, players on the comeback from injuries. Talented Czech twins, Kristyna and Karolina Pliskova both qualified. Kristyna won the Juniors two years ago and qualified last year, but it’s the first Wimbledon main draw for Karolina. The Pliskovas join Serena and Venus Williams and Agnieszka and Urszula Radwanska as sister pairs in the main draw. 1999 semifinalist, now thirty-year old and 129th ranked, Mirjana Lucic, also reached the main draw along with 2012 French Open Junior Girls champion, Annika Beck.
