Andy Murray and Venus Williams Carry the Olympic Torch

Olympic excitement has definitely gripped the top tennis players this year. 2012 Wimbledon finalist, Andy Murray of Scotland had the honor of carrying the Olympic Torch, as did three-time Olympic Gold Medalist and five-time Wimbledon champion, Venus Williams. As is the Olympic tradition, the Torch was lit from the sun’s rays at the Temple
of Hera in Olympia and has been on an 8000-mile trip around the United Kingdom and Ireland since it arrived on May 18, 2012.
As part of the 2012 London Olympic Torch relay, Andy Murray and Venus Williams, decked out in Olympic Torch relay tracksuits, carried the Olympic Torch through the grounds of the All England Club aka Wimbledon. Murray ran onto Centre Court with the flame, where he posed for photos before heading over to Aorangi Park where he passed the Torch to Venus Williams who carried it through the grounds and out of Gate One before passing it off. Four other British tennis players, Elena Baltacha , double quad wheelchair Gold Medalist, Peter Norfolk, Tim Henman and Sue Barker also carried the Olympic flame during its journey.
