The Championships, Wimbledon 2012 - Gentlemen's Quarterfinals Preview

Despite the rain and myriad scheduling challenges, Wimbledon managed to complete the men’s round of 16 matches on Tuesday. The quarterfinals will feature players from seven different countries including two from Germany, which mirrors the country breakdown
of the women’s quarters. Given the draw, there is guaranteed to be a first-time Wimbledon finalist from the bottom half of the draw, which lost Rafael Nadal in the second round.
Number One ranked, Serb, Novak Djokovic plays German, Florian Mayer, who had never previously progressed beyond the third round at a Grand Slam. Djokovic beat Mayer in their only previous meeting. Six-time Wimbledon champion, Swiss, Roger Federer plays Russian, Mikhail Youzhny. Federer, who is playing in his record thirty-third straight Grand Slam quarterfinal is 13-0 versus Youzhny, who is playing in his first Wimbledon quarterfinal although he has reached the quarters at the other Slams. Spaniard, David Ferrer, who is playing in his first quarterfinal at Wimbledon (he has reached at least the quarters in the other Slams) plays Brit/Scot, Andy Murray, who will definitely be the crowd favorite. Ferrer beat Murray at the 2012 French Open and they are tied 5-5 in head-to-head matches, but they have never played on grass. Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga plays German, Philip Kohlschreiber, who is playing in his first Grand Slam quarterfinal. Tsonga is 5-1 in matches against Kohlschreiber, but they have never played on grass.
Predictions: Djokovic, Federer, Murray and Tsonga will reach the semis…
