Kim Clijsters's Final "Performance"

Kim Clijsters is competing in her final U. S. Open and her final professional tournament. Kim, who has battled injuries throughout her career and especially the past year, has said she feels in the best shape ever entering the U.S. Open. Kim, now twenty-nine years old,
started off the tournament with a win over sixteen year old American, Victoria Duval, the youngest player in the main draw and a wildcard by virtue of winning the USTA Girls' 18 National title.
Kim is 22-0 in singles at the U.S. Open going back to her last loss in 2003. Clijsters is also entered in the doubles with Belgian friend, Kirsten Flipkens, and mixed doubles with Bob Bryan. Clijsters has never won a Grand Slam Mixed Doubles title and is clearly taking her final Slam seriously. It's been an emotional journey for Clijsters the past few years since she returned to the Tour as a wife and mother, but she seems at peace as she plays her way into retirement. Announcing plans to retire in advance allows others to celebrate a player's achievements, but also adds a bit more pressure onto Clijsters' shoulders. The final act has not been written, but there is no doubt that there will be smiles and tears...
